Just like in 2005, my family and I will be spending the Holy Week in Roxas City because the Good Friday procession is taking the route that passes by our ancestral home. Before, spending the Holy Week in Roxas felt like one big Lenten Sacrifice because of the absence of modern facilities like internet connection, cable television and malls. Things have changed over time though and now almost every house in our neighborhood has broadband connection!

In Brazil, where football is not just a sport but an art, dribbling is not appreciated.
One of the most abiding moments of the 2002 World Cup was Brazilian winger Denilson taking the ball into the corner and dribbling around in a circle chased by half the Turkey team.
Brazil were leading 1-0 in the semi-final with seconds left and commentators and fans went wild with delight, hailing Denilson’s irreverence and cheeky skills as a classic piece of Brazilian play.
Yet when Brazilian players are on the wrong end of similar trickery, they fail to see the funny side.
Had Denilson tried a similar trick in his homeland, there is a good chance his antics would have provoked a brawl and it is even possible the game would not have finished.
Incredibly, for a country that produced players such as Garrincha and Pele, dribbling is often considered a provocative humiliation of an opponent, a breach of fair play and even an insult to the victim’s manhood.
You really can’t please anyone, can you?

Marry me a little,
Love me just enough.
Warm and sweet and easy,
Just the simple stuff.
Keep a tender distance
So we’ll both be free.
That’s the way it ought to be.
He makes my heart melt when he quotes Sondheim.

McDonald’s, how I love thee. It’s unhealthy, it’s greasy but it’s oh so yummy. Thank you McDo’s 24-hour delivery for making staying up late worthwhile. No wonder I don’t lose weight.

This is not a riot between hooligans. This is a riot between professional football players.
I’m speechless.
